Click on the Borrowing Privileges page for specific loan periods information for students and faculty group. In general, UofL students may borrow items for 28 days. Graduate students are eligible for a 120-day loan period. Faculty and staff may also borrow items for 120 days. However, there are exceptions to this rule. Many libraries have certain parts of the collection that may circulate for a shorter period of time, or not at all.

Some of the exceptions include:

  • Reference materials and government publications do not circulate.
  • Periodicals do not circulate, except at Kornhauser Library.
  • Materials in Rare Books, Photographic Archives, and University Archives do not circulate.
  • Books in Ekstrom Library Browsing Collection may be borrowed for 14 days.
  • Media materials (recordings, videocassettes, microforms, etc.) may be checked out in some libraries. Ask at the nearest service desk.
